| Mesh Output | Mesh | The sphere. |
Parameters
| Name | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Radius | Float | The distance from the center to the surface. |
| Columns | Int | How many segments go around the sphere, like lines of longitude. At least 3. |
| Rows | Int | How many segments go from the top to the bottom, like lines of latitude. At least 2. |
| Smooth Normals | Bool | Whether the surface is lit as one smooth curve or as separate flat facets. |
Sphere makes a ball, centered on the origin with its poles on the Y axis. Columns and rows set the level of detail in the way a globe is divided into longitude and latitude. More of both gives a rounder sphere and more vertices for other mesh operators to work with. A handful of each gives a deliberately faceted shape.
With Smooth Normals on, the lighting curves smoothly across the surface even at low detail. With it off, every triangle is lit as a flat facet, which makes the segments visible. The faceted sphere gives every triangle its own vertices, so it has more vertices than the smooth one at the same detail.
Every vertex has a position, a normal, a tangent and texture coordinates. The coordinates wrap once around the sphere and run from the top to the bottom, so a world map lands the way it would on a globe.
