Transform 3D

Builds a 3D transformation from a stack of translate, rotate and scale operations.

Parameters

NameTypeDescription
ValueoutputTransform 3DThe input transform with the stack applied on top.
Input TransformTransform 3DA transform to start from. Leave it unconnected to start from nothing.
Angle UnitEnumThe unit every angle in the stack is written in.Choices: Degrees, Radians, Turns
Operation TypeEnumWhat Add Operation adds.Choices: Translate, Scale, Rotate (Euler), Rotate (Axis Angle), Look At
Add OperationTriggerAdds an operation of the chosen type to the bottom of the stack.

Operations

The stack, applied from the top down. Each entry is one operation.

Translate

NameTypeDescription
TranslationVector 3How far to move along each axis.

Scale

NameTypeDescription
ScaleVector 3The factor along each axis. 1 leaves an axis as it is.

Rotate (Euler)

NameTypeDescription
OrderEnumThe order the three axis rotations are applied in.Choices: XYZ, XZY, YXZ, YZX, ZXY, ZYX
RotationVector 3The angle around each axis.
PivotVector 3The point the rotation turns around.

Rotate (Axis Angle)

NameTypeDescription
AxisVector 3The direction to rotate around. Its length does not matter.
AngleFloatHow far to rotate around the axis.
PivotVector 3The point the rotation turns around.

Look At

NameTypeDescription
TargetVector 3The point to aim at.
UpVector 3Which way is up, used to keep the result upright.
Forward AxisEnumThe axis that is pointed at the target.Choices: -X, +X, -Y, +Y, -Z, +Z

Transform 3D describes where something sits in 3D space as a stack of simple steps: move it, turn it, scale it, or aim it at a point. A stack like this is easier to read and adjust than a single matrix. The operations are applied from the top down, so the first one acts on the geometry first. A new operator starts with a scale, a rotation and a translation, in that order. The buttons in an operation’s header move it or remove it.

The stack is applied on top of the input transform. Chaining two of these operators therefore gives the same result as one operator with both stacks in order.

Look At turns the geometry so that its forward axis points at the target. It keeps the up direction as upright as it can. It aims from the operation’s own origin, so a translation earlier in the stack changes what is looked at.

Use it to place a mesh with Transform, or animate one by connecting signals to the translation and rotation.
