Feedback

Outputs what another operator produced last time, so a chain can be fed with its own result.

Outputs

NameTypeDescription
Output[Data Type]What the target produced last time.

Inputs

NameTypeDescription
Input[Data Type]What the loop starts from on a refresh.

Parameters

NameTypeDescription
Data TypeEnumWhat the input and the output carry. The choices are all data types ZigZag knows.
TargetReferenceThe output of another operator in the same graph whose result is passed on. Only outputs of the chosen data type can be picked.
RefreshTriggerPasses the input through for one frame instead of the target's result.

Feedback lets a chain of operators work on what it produced itself. Connections in a graph cannot run in a circle, so instead of a connection the operator points at an output somewhere else in the graph. Whatever that target produced last time comes out of Feedback, ready to go into the start of the chain again. A texture that is blurred, blended with a fresh frame and fed back in every frame gives trails.

Refresh restarts the loop. For that one frame the operator passes on its own input instead of the target’s result, and the chain builds on from there. A new operator starts with a refresh, so the first thing it outputs is its input. With no target chosen the operator only outputs something on a refresh.

The target is picked from the outputs in the same graph that carry the chosen data type. Changing the data type replaces the input and the output, so their connections are lost, and clears the target.
