Version 2640

Released 1 Oct 2026alpha

What's new

Added

  • A Help menu with a Documentation entry that opens the documentation on the website in the browser.
  • Documentation in an operator’s right-click menu, and a help button in the operator’s header, open that operator’s page on the website. Both are absent for operators that have no doc file.
  • Hover popups from the documentation. Resting on an operator’s header shows its category and what it does, and resting on a port or a parameter shows its description.
  • The editor checks on startup whether a newer release exists and shows an Update available button in the menu bar when one does. Check for Updates in the Help menu runs the check by hand. The request carries the platform and the version and nothing that identifies the machine.
  • Project files record which version of ZigZag saved them. Opening a project from an older or newer version shows a notice, and a file in a newer format than this build can read is refused instead of misread.

Changed

  • The Remap operator’s mode now defaults to Clamp instead of Unbounded, so an easing curve shows its effect without further setup.
  • The Remap operator’s Input Min, Input Max, Output Min and Output Max are now two parameters, Input Range and Output Range. Either range may run downwards.
  • The Counter, Drift, LFO, Noise and Random operators have a single Range parameter instead of Min and Max, and the Sphere operator has Segments instead of Columns and Rows.
  • The Signal operator Move is renamed to Drift. The name describes a value that keeps going on its own better, and no longer clashes with the Mesh operator Move.
  • The fields of an output parameter are shown in amber, so they read as values the operator produces. The highlight while dragging a connection is white instead of yellow.
  • New graph inputs and outputs are named after their type, such as Texture Input, instead of the type alone.
  • Operators and ports are stored in project files under readable names, such as Sine Wave [s8h], instead of random keys.
  • Menu entries that open a dialog end in three dots.

Fixed

  • A rare crash on shutdown.
  • An easing curve in the Remap operator clamped the input to the input range even in Unbounded mode. Outside the range the result now continues in step with the input.

Removed

  • Project files saved by 2639 and earlier builds can no longer be opened. The way connections are written changed too much to read them reliably, and opening such a file now says so instead of loading it wrongly.
